Comprised as a single mass carved to permit maximum infiltration of natural light, The Light House is a formal reaction to our clients' pre-existing home — a dark 1940s cottage with heavy segregation of space. The house was shaped from the interior outward, providing enough acoustic mass at key elevations to mitigate nearby traffic noise while ensuring openings for natural light and ventilation.

An oversized void to the south-east corner provides a full-height light-filled atrium, home to a lightly composed steel and timber stair.

The living spaces are conceived as a singular entity. A formal dining space was foregone entirely for a large central island — at twenty-two feet, it becomes dining table, hutch, or conversational centre. Tertiary amenity is discreetly hidden within blocks of custom cabinetry. A hidden door releases from the entry closets to unveil a small but considered room wrapped in a custom mural by the digital art group eBoy.
